Just another WordPress.com site
Recently it has come to my attention that there are some out there who believe that because of some of what I write or things I post on social media sites that I am angry, hateful with a heart full of malice. Someone who quite possibly may even be a dangerous and not be in full control of his capacities. Nothing can be further from the truth. That said, you should meet me in person it just gets worse. The fact is never have I had as much light and realization fill my life as I have in the past few years. Still, it took a lifetime of experiences to get to this point. One thing I do know to be true is, clarity can be a bitch. You see, the difference between me and many people is I won’t lie about what I believe, I don’t have time for it. Nor do I have time to waste being politically correct, life is just too short. I just have to call a spade a spade.
Now I won’t intentionally set out to hurt anyone’s feelings, unless of course they need to be verbally checked. I am fully aware of the power of words and the damage they can do. I can tell you from personal experience I would rather be physically beaten than verbally assaulted any day of the week. Words can cut like a knife leaving scars that never quite heal. But I’ve also never been the kind of guy was afraid to say what needed to be said either nor have I ever particularly cared what others thought about me. I mean sure I like to be liked as much as the next person but ultimately it’s just not that important to me. What you see is what you get or as Popeye used to say “I yam what I yam and’ what I ain’t I’ll never be.” Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t lose sleep over others opinions of me or my beliefs. If that were the case would have been dead a long time ago. But every now and then I believe it is in good order to set the record straight.
Where does one draw the line between speaking the truth and being politically correct? What does PC mean anyway? I would love to meet the clown that coined that term but I am quite certain he lives high on some hill behind iron gates and security guards so no one can get to him, as he should. When are things so PC they become too muddled and confusing that no one can tell what the truth is anymore. We’re there as country now. In a state of bewildered confusion. Helpless and unable to think for ourselves. They have us right where they want us.
Like so many other things these days mass media decides for us what is PC and what is not. They relish the thought that Americans can’t think for themselves anymore so they, the media, need to set the standards by which we all live our lives. They have our best interests in mind. Or is it the possible the real reason could be a bit more sinister? Could it be that those who control media control government and they cannot afford to let the average American think for themselves? That would be far too dangerous. A roll of the dice they simply cannot afford to take. Now before you dismiss me as another paranoid conspiracy theory nut, which even I do not discount at times, let me first present some simple, yet quite unsettling facts. Up until the very early 1980’s roughly 50 corporations controlled the vast majority of news media. By the early 1990’s that number had dropped to less than a few dozen or so corporations that controlled 90% of the mass media. That means they controlled 90% of what we watched, read and listened to. That includes newspapers, periodicals, TV and radio stations and even video, motion pictures, books, records and commercial print ads. And they were just getting started. By the year 2000 the number of those in control had fallen to about 6 corporations that control everything you and I see, here and watch and yes, they watch us right back. Sound paranoid? Maybe not so much now. Is it a conspiracy? Most likely yes. Isn’t it America’s manifest destiny to control? America is a corporation nothing more and corporations constantly fight for control of their market. Those who wish to control must always conspire to do so.
The sad part is most people don’t want to hear about it much less bring themselves to believe it. They’re too busy trying to keep up with the Kardashians. Or maybe it just scares them and rightly so. Whatever the case, it’s not the fault of government or big media, it’s ours, we are the ones who buy into their crap and we buy a lot of it. They sell us a healthy dose of bullshit on a daily basis. Yet we still stand at attention and recite the pledge of allegiance to the flag good government bullshit. Americans lap it up and ask for more. We allow them to indoctrinate our children with the social standard of what’s right and what’s wrong with them. What’s the difference between right and wrong? Who decides? One persons ‘right’ is usually because another was wronged. Somebody has to lose right? Or do they? Isn’t that what we’ve had ingrained in us as children, someone wins and someone loses? It today’s society the one with the most toys wins. Americans today live on a steady diet of fear of being left out, not being chosen, not winning. The two terms I wholeheartedly despise are ‘where’s mine’ and ‘I’m winning’. Have you ever had your face being ground into the sidewalk under the heel of someone’s boot? I have and it’s not a good feeling and guess what, I’ll never let it happen again. But it will never be at the expense of some poor schmuck who did nothing to me and nothing more than try and do the best for himself.
As we grow up and into our lives we make choices that determine who we become and how our lives turn out. Some of us are prepared for life better than others while some get lucky and some do not. Our life experiences mold us into who we are, what we believe in and what we stand for. Life is all about experience and perspective. My own shaped me into a hyper aware, social cynic with a general distrust of authority always peeking my head around the corner hoping for a healthy dose of optimism. I want to believe.
I live my life by few rules, maybe because I’ve always broken the rules anyway. The few do live by are usually the ones that get me into the most trouble. I pride myself on the conviction that I say what I mean and I mean what I say, that is rule number one. You may not always like what you hear from me but you can be assured it is the truth as I see it. Speak the truth even if your voice shakes. Do not judge lest I wish to be judged is rule number two. There are no saints hanging around in my company, nor would I have them, their just buzz kills. Finally, to thine own self be true, rule number three. This does not equate to being selfish in fact quite to the contrary, we cannot be honest and real with others if we don’t know how to be honest with ourselves. What good are we to others if we are no good to ourselves I ask. I like to think there have been many people in my life who helped shape and form me and for better or worse what I believe in. Many believed in me when I knew not how to believe in myself. Little do they know their lessons stayed with me long after we followed our separate paths in life. I don’t mind following the rules as long as I believe the reason for which they are in place. Rules to cause restriction and oppress others are usually the first ones I gladly break.
Most of the issues I put on blast are usually of the political or social intolerance sort. It is from these strong opinions I hold and put out there that the majority of my detractors are born. I prefer to refer to myself as Democratic Socialist a label I proudly wear. I am of the belief that a true patriot will call his government on their bullshit even when it is not the popular thing to do. Though I am decidedly a liberal to some extremes there are several things I can disagree with even the most liberal of people on occasion. For many right wing types out there to even think of questioning government is tantamount to being a communist, as if the blind followers of their ilk would know what real communism is. All they know is what they were force fed in school that communists, socialists or anyone different than them for that matter eat their own children. Now I’m no big fan of communism but I am of socialism and that is a bird of different feather. That is the part that the right wing loons will never get nor can I expect them to as it would violate the core of their intolerant beliefs. But for sake of those right wingers reading this, plainly put, communism is a political system and socialism is an economic system. One by which everybody gets to play in the sandbox and eat lunch together. Those that want even more toys to play with are free to work their ass off to earn it but not at the expense of others and especially not to deny others rights to live freely once those climbers ‘get theirs’.
I grew up stumping the election trail dropping off door hanger literature and campaign pamphlets at election time. I worked in the political world as an adult and directly in some fairly heavy campaigns at a high level on the Chicago political food chain. I have had the good fortune of being ‘in the loop’ and privy to political doings both good and bad. I too have committed my share of political mayhem. I have seen enough to know I didn’t like what I saw. I knew it was I who had changed as they never will. My ma likes to say the Democrats are crooked and the Republicans will eat their own and yours too. She may be manic, a requirement for political involvement, but she’s super political and pulls her weight at election time. She’s right, you can’t win with either bunch but at least going with the former I get a shot. That said you can trust none of them for any reason.
This is where the fundamental difference between me and my detractors comes in. I do believe everybody should have a shot in life. A hot meals a few times a day, a safe place they can call home and a bed to lay their head at night. Hell let’s even throw in the human right to decent medical care and freedom by virtue of the Constitution of the United States of America to pursue their dream and freedom to be who they are, whatever that may be. The simple right to conduct one’s life by your own moral and ethical principles provided they cause no harm to others. Is that so hard to understand? Work hard and you get to eat and expect a shot at good health if you so desire. I have no time for Mitt Romney types who if you recall believe that, “There are 47 percent of the people who are dependent upon government, who believe they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it.” This coming from a guy who never had to worry about missing a meal in his entire life. I mention this infamous statement because those who follow the Republican party of today, not the one many of us knew growing up, believe this shit. Make no mistake, because the old Mitten is gone and almost forgotten doesn’t mean this belief system is gone. No, even he came by it honestly. It is an inherent part of the rightwings beliefs. The scary ones are still out there holding on to fight another day and deny you of your human rights any chance they get. They will stop at nothing to get what they want and that something is ALL of America. THIS is the real Republican party of today’s American. They are bad, evil people who wish to control you and I. They are the boogeyman I rail against, we would be better safer America if they were dispatched from this world, with extreme prejudice.
We live in a country that arguably is the greatest country on earth yet is in dire need of a lot of work from within. Politicians whore out to corporations and federal, states and municipalities financially rape their citizens while the 1% live extreme comfort free from worry because we allow them to buy the system. We allow government sponsored evil corporations like Monsanto et al. to destroy our farms, poison our food source and threaten our very survival. Our political and justice systems are completely corrupted. We ostracize anyone who is different than us and permit organized religions to vilify women who wish to have a choice. Police brutality is at an all-time high and anyone who believes that law enforcement’s job is to serve and protect is naïve or simply delusional. Government allows corporate CEO’s to collect millions in bonuses yet will begrudge its own tax paying citizens contributions made to their own social security or unemployment benefits and the rightwing calls these ‘entitlement’ programs. Banks, Wall St. and politicians get richer and we get poorer. Economic inequality is at an all-time high. The Christian right throws around the Word of God like so many pieces of silver yet do exactly the opposite of what Christ would do. They wage battle against anyone who might advocate liberty of thought, speech or action. Nothing worries me more than the moral certainty of others.
Now ask once again why I throw political and social vitriol around with such ease and advocate violence against evil people and entities. Because that is exactly what they’re doing to you on a daily basis and I’ve never been a turn the other cheek kind of guy. All America can hear anymore is anger, loud, long and violently if we are to survive as a country, as a people as a society. But then again, it is said that all good things must come to an end. Well, I won’t go down without fighting.
Yes, we are in a very bad place in America and in serious need of a revolution. A very real revolution. Whether that remains bloodless or not depends wholly on what we accept from a corrupted, self-entitled government run by corporations and ghost political shot callers. Governing is necessary, government as we have come to know it in these past few decades or longer no longer works in its current form and hasn’t for a long, long time and never will again. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. That, is the very textbook description our current political process of ourselves as Americans. So I say what I say crudely and I say it loudly.
I will always rail against any perceived injustice and anybody who feels free to deny any persons rights to be who they are and live freely as they wish to and will continue to do so. I am proud to do so and remain unconcerned how those who don’t feel the same as I do react to my visceral literary style. A funny thing is, the ones who condemn me the most are the ones who keep reading what I put out there. They’ll get over it, or not. If they’re going come for me I suggest come heavy or don’t come at all. One thing is for sure, they always come back for more.
Yep, I’ve got plenty to say… and I’m just getting started.
